My name is Tim Hong. I live in Mississauga with my wife, Kirsten, son Jayden, and 2 daughters Alicia and Mila. We also have a golden retriever named Chance. It’s tough to get a picture of all us…so this one will do for now!
When I first got involved in real estate back in 2005, I was working a full-time job in the marketing field and I was fortunate enough for my parents to put a down payment on a condo. I was living in the master bedroom of a 2 bedroom + den condo, and I was renting out one of the bedrooms and the den to University students to supplement my rent payments to my parents to cover their mortgage.
Over the next couple years, I started reading more and more about real estate investing. I attended some seminars from Donald Trump and Rich Dad Poor Dad, but they were all US based. After some searching, I finally stumbled upon local investment group (Rock Star Inner Circle). With their help and coaching, the first home I actually purchased wasn’t even for myself, it was an investment property in Kitchener. I continued to study real estate investing, attending classes, events and learning a lot and picked up a couple more single family homes and a 6 unit building.
The direction towards real estate was something I could see myself going into, so I decided to get my real estate license to get access to more information. It was a part-time gig at first, but shortly after being licensed, I ended up getting laid off from my marketing job.
This was actually a blessing in disguise and decided to jump into the real estate game full-time and became a coach with Rock Star Real Estate.
I started by focusing on helping investors with different real estate strategies, crunching numbers, finding good cash flowing properties and protecting them from bad investments.
Since joining them, the team has helped hundreds of investors to purchase good properties in good neighbourhoods, attract quality tenants and build millions worth of equity.
At the end of 2012, my son Jayden was born and I decided I needed a bit of a change. At that time, I was driving out of town quite often to Kitchener, Hamilton, Barrie and Oshawa to find these investment properties, and wanted to spend more time at home. So I started to focus towards the “other side” of the industry, helping buyers and sellers with their personal homes.
It might have been that I had blinders on, but I noticed that the ethical conduct that I was providing to the investors seemed to be lacking with real estate agents who were dealing with buyers and sellers and their personal home.
What I realized that the real estate industry in general was missing transparent information…all the advertisements I was seeing was ego-driven, sales-pitch type advertisements that talked about free market evaluations, need more listings, your home sold in 30 days, fridge magnets and recipe cards.
But there wasn’t enough information.
So that’s what got me thinking in applying the same principles I used with investors (education and protection) , I needed to provide to buyers and sellers.
Today, I’m on a mission to educate and help Buyers, Sellers and Investors to make sure they are protected and not ripped off while making one of the biggest investments of their lives.
